JOB DESCRIPTION:  

Bus Driver 10 month

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

1. High School diploma required or equivalency certificate (GED).
2. Must be 21 years of age and have had at least three (3) years of general driving experience or five (5) years of intensive driving experience.
3. Large vehicle or truck driving experience is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
4. Must pass a regular physical, visual, and hearing examination. Must be alert, careful, and possess the ability to maintain emotional calm in periods of emergency.
5. Should have an understanding of children and to be dedicated to their safety.
6. Must become familiar with state and local vehicle regulations regarding bus transportation. Will complete first aid training as provided by the school district.
7. Must provide a copy of driving record as verified through Department of Public and be free of criminal record.
8. Must be willing to attend bus drivers school upon employment or within the first year, if such school has not been attended and certificate has not been obtained.
9. Commercial Driver's License required.


10. Fingerprint Clearance required. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

1. Operates school bus along established routes loading students at designated locations.
2. Dive extra trips and routes as needed.
3. Maintains discipline of children riding vehicle as well as when boarding or loading.
4. Responsible for cleaning vehicle by washing windows, mopping floors, etc.
5. Checks all dashboard gauges, safety equipment including safety arms and steering apparatus before each trip. Reports in writing mechanical trouble and safety hazards or need for major repairs to supervisors.
6. Advises supervisors of routes needing change while maintaining the accuracy of own route map.
7. Pays particular attention to the physical and emotional needs of students in vehicle.
8. Reports discipline problems of students to proper authority.


9. Instructs children on bus evacuation procedures and will maintain mileage records, etc.


10. Reports safety hazards or need for major repairs.
11. May perform other related jobs tasks upon request of supervisor.
